The jet lag is starting to hit!

Hey there! How is everyone? Hope you are well!!!!
Day 1 here at my home for the next month and I think I am quite happy with my new temporary residence. The locals are really sweet and friendly and I am already starting to make some friends, including the hotel staff who I warned when I checked in, that they will all probably know me by name soon enough as even they were surprised how long we were staying for. It is a shame we didn’t managed to get any self contained apartments (as I would have loved a kitchen) but as you will see below I have pretty much made do with my space.
I’ll rewind to last night after check in and unpacking, I headed downstairs for some bar nibbles:
and one of these:
but didn’t make it to dinner afterwards (although one of the hotel staff offered to take me out and show me some of the nightlife – I asked for a raincheck as the drowsiness was starting to take hold). And I know I am not the only one…the rest of the crew is feeling it too.
I woke up today at 7am (this is never normal for me) and headed down to the restaurant for breakfast. No juice bar however they do have a juicer set up with cut fruit and carrots. I didn’t have the nerve to start juicing myself in front of other patrons but maybe tomorrow. This is what I had:
I wish the green juice were veggie but it was a kiwi juice.
Fruit salad and prunes. As
Kristen says, good for pooping!
And read my new book I got at Borders in Singapore. I cannot get enough of food/recipe books!
Afterwards I found out about some local craft markets, so headed downtown and met some more friendly locals manning some truly lovely stalls and food stalls from all over the world: German bratwursts, Spanish Paella, Lebanese, Chinese etc. I will be heading back there for sure next weekend as I fell in love with some of the handmade natural soaps and a natural miracle ointment for anything from dry cracked skin to nappy rash.
Here are some pictures I took on my walk:
Meat Pies! Reminds me of home (and my meat eating days!)
I cannot believe I only saw this today!!! Too late. Would have been cool to find out what it was all about.
I joined a gym to start tomorrow that has classes of my ever favourite Body Pump and RPM (spin) and headed to a local mall where I found some more books (I think I might have a problem??) and these goodies:
And here I have set it all up for my own little wholefoods station tee hee:
Some of these items are for me to take home also, as unusual items are hard to come by where I live in the desert (like a KG of spirulina, coconut oil, safflower oil etc)
How cute is this little herb station I bought for counter top farming:
And because it was almost 5pm and I realised I hadn’t eaten since breakfast I bought one of these little sushi packs:
Cukes & capsicum & lettuce nori rolls
Sushi is everywhere here. They really do like it!!! Such a change to where I live. You are flat out trying to get a decent one, however I much prefer my own nori wraps with veggies (no rice).
See how I can stick to my high raw diet on the road (it will just take some organisation). And needless to say I have cleared the mini fridge out for all my cold produce – who needs those mini wines anyway? Tomorrow (being a weekday with more shops open) I hope to make it to a wholefoods store I have been recommended.
It is almost dinner time, but my eyes are closing as I type this, so I think it will be time for early bed and hopefully when I wake my jetlag would have disappeared. Night Night.
Oh and before I forget…check out the daytime view from my stopover yesterday!
