I did it!

Can you  believe it! I actually ran 10 miles/16kms today (well I jogged it! But I didn’t walk any of it!). Never having run that distance before ever in my life I was feeling a little nervous leading up to the race today…I wasn’t even sure I was going to do it, but I am soo glad I did. And thank you sooo much Lori and Michelle at Pure2Raw. These girls are veterans at running and sent me some fabulous ideas on what to eat prior to and following my race which helped sooo much. And also to my favourite Boxercise instructor, Edain, for giving me the courage to give it a shot, even though I didn’t feel prepared AT ALL :) Needless to say I ate Edain’s dust today at the run :)

I came 2nd place for my age group! Oh My Goodness. I was totally in shock! But I think I was only one of two in my age group haha.

So I woke up a couple of hours before the race today and made this pudding:

Measurements are for 2 people

1 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup of cacao nibs

1/4 cup of goji berries

1/4 cup of shredded coconut

2 T raw honey

1 T of maca

1/2 cup of filtered water

Blended in the Vita Mix :)

Also one of my buddies told me to try Date-O-Rade. 10 – 15 dates plumped up in about a litre of water then blended to a puree. I didn’t want to have too much liquids so I just had a sip on this (no photo) but had some more after the race.

Yesterday I found some YOUNG THAI COCONUTS in one of the newer supermarkets here in Saudi – Lulu (which wasn’t pretty going shopping there on the weekend…note to self, wait til a weekday to return).

So after the race I had a crack at trying to open one, because I wanted to drink the delish electrolyte filled coconut water (I used to live for these when I was detoxing at Spa Samui last year and the year before)

It took a bit of elbow grease to get it open but wow was it worth it for some of this! After I had to taste test a little ;)

And then scraped all the goodness filled coconut meat, to store for later, but not before I taste tested it also!

Cleaned it OUT!

Then followed it with a Smoothie Chaser

This is one glass of three…yeah I was starving by this time after my race.

Frozen bananas, spinach, blueberries, blackberries and pineapple with filtered water and ice :)

Then I took the RAW Beast out to run some errands.

Becci and I share this car. Yes, in Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive, however on our compound as it is classed as private property, we are able to drive. Recently Becci and I went halves in this ‘camp’ car, which is basically unregistered but gets us around to places like the dry cleaners and the supermarket on camp. Don’t ya just love the RAW sticker? When the pilots that we bought the car, first saw the car since we took ownership, they knew it was ours for the big sticker on the back!

And I coudln’t help but shout myself a Zaatar with Vegetables from the Commiscary

A couple of hours later I was really craving some more carbs (hmmm must have been that exercise I did earlier in the day)

So I made some spelt pasta with Vegan Bolognaise

Frozen TVP (another find at LuLu Supermarket yesterday)

with garlic, onion, grated carrot, celery, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree and fresh basil

With a side salad of spinach, capsicum, grated carrot, cherry and sundried tomatoes, mixed lettuce leafs and Balsamic Vinegarette.

Dessert was one of these:

Gluten free refine sugar free ginger snaps care of The Voracious Vegan :)

Alrighty guys, as my weekend draws to a close, I hope you all have a great weekend wherever you are in the world. It’s time for sleeps for me…hmmm wonder how sore I will be in the morning?

See you tomorrow :)
