Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!!

Hi de ho bloggies…so sorry for my absence of late, however I have just been having way too much fun catching up with friends and family on my spontaneous trip down under. I know I promised an Australiana themed giveaway but fun in the sun with loved ones was just too tempting to leave the macbook for a little while.

So now I am almost home (I am in Abu Dhabi now, waiting for my last flight home to Bahrain where we then do the causeway shuffle), I thought I had better touch base with you all!

Before I announce details of the little giveaway, I thought it best to update you with some of the happenings as it’s been quite exciting in the life of Robyn lately.

First of all I finally got to meet the Twinnies!!!!!

19842 244334156361 719131361 371343 Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!!

My gorgeous god daughters that I have been itching to meet since the day they were a twinkle in my pal Greensie’s and her hubby’s eyes.

These girls were a dream and I even got to help bottle feed them when we got introduced. Don’t you just think they are going to break some major hearts VERY soon, just like their mum?

Also, this week I have been fighting off cold like symptoms (ER NEWS FLASH – I haven’t had a cold in like, forever and I believe that’s because of my usually super clean diet, and I was determined from the moment a woman began sneezing on me at the airport when I left the Middle East two weeks ago, that I wasn’t going to get sick!!!). When I got to Brisbane, my family were all fighting off cold symptoms so I kept my fresh fruit and veggie juice uptake quite high and ensured I had plenty of fresh fruit and veggies with minimal processed foods, but alas, this week it took hold with a slight sore throat, achey joints, lethargy and a runny nose.

I finally succumbed and bought some Echinacea and Vitamin C tablets to try and fight the bugger away which it at the tail end right now. I also think the high humidity in the weather in Brisbane didn’t assist with my congestion but I believe my symptoms may have lasted longer, or been more severe had my diet not been so great in the first place.

Monday saw me having an exciting bloggy meetup with not 1, not 2 but 3 bloggy friends of mine from when I was writing www.girlontour.com , a travel oriented blog.

Left to right: Traytable, Me, Sky High Boy, and Airboy

These guys are also flight attendants, 2 of them are flying with 2 airlines I have worked with previously and another from my own neighbourhood of Dubai. It was the first time half of us had met, and it was so lovely to put a face to the bloggy names, and also speak about each other’s experiences in the air and the ground. I wish I had of had more time with everyone, but I was so lucky to host the three trolly dollies in my own city. If you guys are interested in our jobs a little more check out their respective blogs here. They provide a wealth of information and a touch of humour too! icon smile Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!!

Speaking of meet ups….in the near future I will be making my way to Washington DC and I have never been there before? Has anyone got any great suggestions for any decent restaurants or even where I can find a store that I can walk in and buy a Vitamix? (I am buying a second one for the house and I have no idea of places for shopping for these things as I would prefer to NOT buy it online this time due to my short time there).

Ok so now onto the fun stuff guys!

The giveaway!!!!

As with most blog giveaways there are more than one way you can win…..

To go into the draw to win a pack featuring the Australiana goodies listed here:

DSCF2368 Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!!

1 tube of Luca’s Papaw (Papaya) Ointment – which most Aussies living abroad know all about (it is usually part of a care package sent from home) It can be used from everything from chapped lips to nappy rash.(read more about it here)

DSCF2370 Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!!
1 bag of one of my favourite superfoods – Cacao Powder

DSCF2369 Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!! 1 julienne peeler (as featured in my Raw on the Road video here). If you are just getting into the raw food thing and you’ve just discovered recipes like these ones for veggie pasta, you definitely need one of these tools to create the pasta. I usually use my Joyce Chen’s spiraliser here: however before you make the commitment to buy something a little more costly, these julienne peelers certainly do the trick! I first found these kinda peelers here.

Tomorrow I will post a video on how I use my peeler!

To stand a chance to win, answer the following question either via a comment on my blog here, or posting the answer to your question on your own blog, with a comment back on my blog here to say you have done so, or you can answer the question via twitter with a link to this post, once again placing a comment on my blog to announce that you have done so.

If you were to do a giveaway to represent your part of the world, what would your pack include?

Entries are open to anyone, and the winner will be drawn randomly on the 19th January with the winner announced on this blog on the 20th January. Don’t forget you have 3 chances to win, so go ahead and good luck icon smile Australiana giveaway, bloggy meetup and the Twinnies!!!

  1. Great giveaway!!!! So fun!!
A giveaway from here would be maple syrup (for sure), smoked salmon (for the non vegans of course)and a little Newfoundland treat (because Dave is from there and they have fun treats!)!!

  2. Ps. the twins are sooo cute!! Babies look good on you Robyn!! hehe :)

  3. Christina says:

Gidday mate. My giveaway is to represent Geraldton. a pair of thongs (the foot kind) and a surfboard.
    Love the pictures Robyn.

  4. Such adorable pictures. The twins are so cute! How fun to have finally met them.
To enter the contest: If I had to make a pack to include L.A. items, I’d throw in some fresh California citrus fruits, including my very favorite, Meyer lemons, and some sunscreen! And a hat for staying cool in the sun!

  5. Cee says:

What sweet pics! Hmm… if I were to make a care package of local items, it would be difficult to make it healthy, as most comfort foods here are grits, biscuits, etc.. But I would probably have to do Goo Goo Clusters, Moon Pies, and RC Cola, because those are all local, I think. You wouldn’t have to eat them ;)

  6. HippieMom says:

What a lovely post! You rock girl! Irresistible pictures ;-]
    and what a FANTASTIC giveaway!
If I had to think about mine, It would be a local goodie like a box of high quality dates..Yum!

  7. Alisha says:

    itd be a blender/processor!
i loooove making smoothies with fresh fruits
and i enjoy making nut butters too! delicious!

  8. Hi R! Cute photos!

I’ll do last month’s home (India), since I am new here and have not figured the place out yet!:

    - Neem oil – a natural, plant sourced oil with antimicrobial and anti-parasitic properties (plus an anti-inflammatory and skin healer).

    - Cold pressed organic coconut oil – yum and great for creating raw desserts!

    - Organic ground tumeric – so many reported proerties – antibacterial, anti-inflamatory, etc. and great for adding color to your cooked, vegan Indian dishes!

  9. Lauren says:

Wow! Great giveaway and great question! I would giveaway: my favorite healing spray that is geranium and rosemary (smells divine), a journal (because I love doing it everyday), and a mix of dried dates and dried fig (because I can’t get enough of them!).

  10. Gillian says:

If I were doing a pack from Paris it would include salted butter caramels, Poulain chocolate and a mini Eiffel tower!

If it were from my home of Vancouver Canada it would be maple syrup, gluten-free pancake mix and some local dried cranberries!

  11. Belinda says:

Hi Robyn! So nice to read your blog and see photos of you and the twins!
I live in Alkmaar, the Netherlands, and our city is famous for its cheese. But since you’re a vegan I would make you a very happy parcel (I love making happy parcels) with Tulips (they always cheer me up), the most beautiful teapot in the world from Oilily (http://www.koffieenkado.nl/productdetails.aspx?artikelnummer=2016), a local company, the best organic tea from simon levelt and of course one of my very happy *hug the world* posters (see the website http://www.hugtheworld.net)
    Enjoy!

  12. You and the babes are so beautiful!!!

Raw and Vegan option in DC, Java Green – http://www.javagreencafe.com

    Love you,
    Kristen

  13. Hey Girly! Thanks so much for visiting my blog! I absolutely love it! I don’t know any one who is on a Raw diet, and I find it very interesting. Plus I read that you’re from Australia! How awesome is that, I absolutely love it there! While I was in college one summer a group of people and I went over there to work on Olympic training stuff for my school. It was so much fun! Luca’s Papaw Ointment LOVE that stuff so much! Seriously I think my host family knows that when Christmas comes around I better be getting that lol! I will most definitely be hooked on your blog!

I am originally from Michigan so I would probably do a Michigan package and send a few of the following….
Some amazing fudge from Mackinaw Island
    Cider Mill donuts
    Homemade Jam
    Flat Out Breads

    Have a great week :]

  14. What a great giveaway! Well since I am new to Mighigan I would give seasonal gifts. They are known for cherries, so many chcolate covered cherries and jam. The state is health conscience so something nutty like fruit and nut mix and of course some nice scarf to protect from the cold. I am @singerinkitchen. I plan on tweeting the same thing! Thanks!

  15. YIPPIE for Twins!!!! They are so cute! :) What an awesome giveaway. Love the kitchen tool, one of our favs!

  16. The twins are adorable! Hmmm…if I were to have a giveaway with Chicago based items, they would probably be: 1) MITTENS! It’s quite chilly with the wind here, 2) lots of food companies are based here, so I’d probably give some goods from companies like Pepperidge Farms, or Wonderbread, or Twinkies (though personally, I would NOT eat any of that…give me some Larabars instead!), 3) and some of my favorite food items, like dried Turkish figs, chocolate covered almonds, or Banana Bread Lara bars.

Most of Chicago is an experience place, and we’re really not known for any food items rather than deep dish pizza and hot dogs, neither of which travel well, haha!

Love your blog and all your adventures!

  17. Christina says:

My giveaway would probably include Maple Syrup for sure!

    I love your blog!

  18. Melissa says:

I’m from Georgia so I would HAVE to include some raw unsalted pecans (mmm!), some peach preserves (my grandmother makes the best!), and some tea packets to make iced tea… typically its sweet tea here but I don’t do processed sugar (as I’m sure most readers don’t).

  19. Melinda says:

Great giveaway! So funny that Melissa above me is also from Georgia! :D I would also have to say pecans, some raw honey (lots of bee farms where I live), and maybe some coffee- people from Georgia love to sit around over a nice cup of coffee and catch up on life!

  20. Donna says:

From Ireland would definitely be a bag of Tayto, homemade brown bread and a box of Barrys Tea Bags :)

  21. Sonya says:

    Hi!
Would love to win a vegie spiraller – I can’t find one anywhere in Abu Dhabi!
Some food gifties from home in NZ would include Pineapple Lumps, kiwifruit, Vegemite/Marmite, and a bottle of L&P :-) most of which are not raw or vegan, unfortunately!

  22. My give away would include…Some raw sunflower candies made right here is Kansas, a jar of Peanut Butter and Co. Dark Chocolate Dream, A jar of Sand Hill Plum jelly and a zester that you wear on two fingers!!!

  23. pixx says:

Unfortunately, a representation of VA would have to contain ham & peanuts. I’d be more likely to want to give away coconut oil & raw honey, but that wouldn’t represent VA!

  24. Edain says:

Ok….before I start, please no one be offended by what I write, I am from Scotland and we are renowned for eating a lot of fat – hence we have a relatively high mortality rate from coronary heart disease not too mention the huge obesity count…deep fried mars bars, sliced sausage, haggis (swear word?), shortbread (I adore shortbread!!), all washed down by irn bru oh yeah and whisky, nearly forgot our national drink. So got me thinking – a healthy giveaway – here is what I came up with:
Scottish Blaeberries (our Sassenach neighbours call them Bilberries) we used to pick from the wild as children – turn your teeth black….but tasty and good for vision.
Ayrshire new potato (tattie) – organic from the farmer’s market. With the soil still on, trust me there is not a better potato in the world…it’s in the west coast soil (salty).
Trout – lovely freshwater fish (line caught, NOT farmed), healthy – delicious on the BBQ.
Tunnocks Tea cake- What’s not healthy about this!!! Shortbread biscuit covered with whipped egg white (marshmallowy), encased in a thin layer of chocolate and wrapped in red and silver foil. Great with a cup of Tea….got to be done when it is peeing down with rain outside – we eat a lot of these coz it’s ALWAYS raining.
    Bonny Scotland!

    • Girlonraw says:

Hey there Edain!!! Glad you came by and commented and I LOVE this comment. My family in Scotland would totally agree. I would have to add a Scooby Snack after a large night out haha.

  25. Edain says:

Oops as I did not write enough….*chatterbox*…LOVE YOUR BLOG ROBYN. I am not a vegan, nor do I eat raw not a veggie either but I do like healthy fresh food. Great job GIRL ON RAW :)

  26. Martine says:

    Hi Robyn,

An Irish giveaway would for sure contain…some Guinness(for it’s iron content of course!), some traditional Irish brown soda bread..completely yum:o) Some smokey dillish seaweed to add a smokey hint to your main course dish. Some natural pressed apple juice from Ballycross Apple Farm, and some Ballymaloe Country Relish..a delicious relish made from natural ingredients in Co. Cork, that I add to everything! Also delicious spicey Black Pudding – made from…you don’t want to know! Oooh….. and some Irish Shamrock for some extra luck throughout the year…

  27. keelee fournel says:
