Winner Announced & I Finally Tried Kale!
Today is the day the winner of my Australiana Themed Giveaway is drawn…so drumroll please!!
The winner is Claire from College:Raw. (I used Random Number Generator) Woo Hoo. Congrats girl, I am sooo excited for you to get the pack which includes:
The giveaway!!!!
1 tube of Luca’s Papaw (Papaya) Ointment – which most Aussies living abroad know all about (it is usually part of a care package sent from home) It can be used from everything from chapped lips to nappy rash.(read more about it here)
1 bag of one of my favourite superfoods – Cacao Powder
1 julienne peeler (as featured in my Raw on the Road video here). If you are just getting into the raw food thing and you’ve just discovered recipes like these ones for veggie pasta, you definitely need one of these tools to create the pasta. I usually use my Joyce Chen’s spiraliser here: however before you make the commitment to buy something a little more costly, these julienne peelers certainly do the trick! I first found these kinda peelers here.
I hope you enjoy Claire!!! And make sure you post up what you end up making with the peeler and the Cacao

Well this Jet Lag is s a crazy thing eh? I REALLY need to catch up on lost sleep but I keep waking up uber early naturally and getting to bed late. What is up with that???
But last night I got to bed late for good reason as I was recording for an up and coming podcast for The CrewLounge which was so much fun. My friends and other fellow flight attendants Traytable and Sky High Boy starred in Episode 3 here and Airboy starred in Episode 2 here. It was a load of fun and great to ‘meet’ some other cool flighties. Stay tuned for the final cut.
Today I woke up and THIS was waiting for me!
This trip away I decided to do something different and ORDER in some Raw Home Delivery. Thanks Kristen for the idea!
I’ve already eaten the lasagne and the garlic bread (more like crackers)
And the Chocolate Cheesecake. This is my first Raw Vegan Cheesecake and I cannot believe how cheesecake like it smelt, tasted and looked.
I’ve still got the jalapeno poppers, banana cream pie and donut holes to polish off, however I pinched a couple of donut holes today and cannot believe how the texture and taste is so like DONUTS. I may or may not have ordered some more food for my upcoming flight. Really keen to check out some of the other dishes.
This afternoon was spent walking around town, taking in the sights….then I CAME across this!

Oh yeah. Wholefoods.LOVE. Wish we had one at home.
Some goodies I picked up…
Oh and my dinner. I finally got to taste Kale!! There is a lot more on the bottom. Let’s just say that I am glad I am sleeping alone tonight though as the GARLIC sauce was potent – but yum.
How cool is the compostable packaging?
Anyway guys, I have to turn in as I am beat. But before I go, regular readers would have met my pal Becci (she worked with me at a previous airline and now lives & works with me in Saudi) who spoilt me last year with my first ever Raw Vegan Birthday Cake. Well this girl is clever. Especially with interior design. And for those of you who are PINK girls out there (there are a few of us come on!), you might enjoy this little video she has put together to enter an interior design competition where she was required to showcase a room she has decorated/designed all on her own. It might also give you a tiny bit of a view of our compound. My house is almost identical
Let me know what you think! Night night! Zzzzzzzz

This first raw cheesecake I tried was so rich I could barely finish it! No one believed it was dairy free. I love going to Whole Foods for lunch, luckily I have one near work to create salads a lot like that!
Whaaahhhhhh – I am so jealous! Just kidding (sort of!) – I am actually happy for you to get to see a Whole Foods and try kale – you must have had a fun time roaming the aisles for sure! I’d throw a few bunches of kale in my suitcase if I were you! I used to be a meat smuggler, but now have turned into an organic produce smuggler, as I am sure you are as well!
Don’t forget you can get the Yogi tea at Organic Foods & Cafe in Dubai. It is not too, too expensive…
More compound photos, please!!! Hubby and I are curious about it (I actually brought it up to him the other day – funny coincidence that you posted about it). We have never lived on a compound. I am thinking it must be a little utopia? Much better than roughing it on your own on the outside, I am guessing!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE wholefoods. I had been to the one in London but nice to try one out here in the states. And good idea re the KALE haha, didn’t even think of that.
As for the Yogi tea, I can also find it in Bahrain would you believe (Dubai is harder for me to get to usually as I only get there once every 6 months)
I have not yet commented on your blog, but wanted to say hello as I just realized you are visiting Washington, DC – that Whole Foods is good, but if you get a chance to make it up to the one in Tenleytown (4 stops north of Dupont on the red metro line), that one has more raw specialty products
Thanks so much City Girl. I used the metro the other day to goto Best Buys, but we are now leaving today so I won’t get a chance but I will put it on my list!
Congrats to the winner! I am very jealous!
Great eats and shopping goodies! That cheesecake looks “to die for!”
Doesn’t it what!? It was very hard to finish – very filling!
Super cute place!!
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog
Best wishes for your trip back. I know you are very busy, but if you have any time in the next few weeks, would you mind giving me your thoughts on purchasing a Vitamix and its durability? http://www.cgldaily.com/2010/01/city-girl-eats-asking-for-your-vita-mix.html I am pretty much sold on purchasing one for when my current blender dies, but am trying to find out any pitfalls/whether one type of Vitamix is better/any customer service issues etc, you know?
Sure! I just read your post on this and I was going to reply when I get to my next destination. Will do
PS I am thinking of buying a second one so that should help to begin with!
Thank you so much for responding so quickly and with that link. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate it
Safe travels! PS I look forward to hearing your thoughts in more detail, but really, no rush.
My uncle used to work for Saudi Airlines and lived there for years. I’ve heard about the compound quite a bit from him! What an interesting blog…can’t wait to read more!
WOW, thank you so much, Robyn! I am so super excited for my goodies to arrive! I’m shooting you an email right now!
P.S. I LOVE WholeFoods too. Whenever I get a chance to go there, I always pick up either their brown rice veggie sushi or something from the salad bar, always with sweet potatoes…
Congrats to the winner
We love our Whole Foods as well!!!!
I LOVE her place! Great ideas, too!
Yummmm what a great looking cake!! Wholefoods is my love, seriously there is no better place!
I am so happy you had your connection with Kale today
I love kale so much and add it to pretty much everything!
Congrats to the winner. I must try this cream. Can you only get it at certain places?
have a great day!
