Healthy Chocolate & Worldwide Detox
Hiya bloggies, I’ve missed ya! Every time I have sat down to write a long awaited post, something else (like work!) has cropped up. It’s kinda crazy here with lots of work right now. Woe is me
But there has been plenty of time for some great eats. Especially this delicious smoothie my friend Kira got me onto from the Green Smoothie Challenge Website when she tagged me on Facebook.
Warming Ginger courtesy of

The combination of pineapple, mango and ginger in this smoothie gives it an Asian twist. If you are in a cold climate then don’t let this stop you from drinking green smoothies. Ginger is warming on a cold day and also helpful during colds and flus to help you sweat and promote detoxification. Ginger also eliminates intestinal gas, relaxes and soothes the intestinal tract and is anti-inflammatory. In herbal remedies, ginger is used to alleviate nausea, dizziness and vomiting. To benefit from ginger you only need to use a little, as the active substances in ginger are so concentrated.
Pineapple is an excellent source of manganese, which is an important mineral in energy production. Pineapple is often recommended to promote good digestion.
½ head romaine lettuce
1 cup pineapple
1 large mango1-inch fresh ginger
2 cups of water
Blend the pineapple, mango, ginger and water for 30 seconds. Add the romaine lettuce and blend until smooth. Thanks Green Smoothie Challenge!
If you have Romaine Lettuce, Mango, Pineapple and Fresh Ginger at home, YOU SO HAVE TO MAKE THIS!
Kira was telling me how she was dreaming out it one day, and her shift at work was changed last minute so she had NO time to make it before work that day. She reckons she was cranky for the rest of the day. So I had to try it for myself.
And after discovering what was so dreamy about it, I packed up the rest and shared it with some of my Boot Campers on Monday night. But not before I made them guess what was in it. And yes they all came back for seconds. You totally have to try it!! And let me know how much you love it!
On other news, this week I received an exciting package in the mail that I am really excited to share with you all once I have tasted it. Has anyone heard of Xocai (healthy chocolate?). I am still doing my research on it so I don’t know that much about it, but anything you can share would be much appreciated.
Time for me to race off for boxing. Lately I’ve been making 3 classes a week (2 x Boxercise & 1 Boot Camp/Circuit Class) and walking/jogging the fur baby around the golf course most days (approximately 7kms). What ‘movement’ are you doing/liking right now?
Don’t forget if you are looking for that kickstart to detox your life, my pal Casey and Marlena Torres kick off their Discover Detox program tomorrow so check it out here! Such a great idea for beginners or people who need the inspiration and encouragement from someone who has been in your place!
Anyone got any ideas on where to eat/dine/shop in Houston? I may/may not see Houston in my near future?? More later

Aaaawwwww! I want to go home soooooon!!! What part of town will you be in? The airport only? Will you have transport? Whole Foods Market on Kirby (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/kirby/)! There are actually 5 locations in Houston, but this is the best! Also, def. hit Central Market on Westheimer (http://www.centralmarket.com/Stores/Houston.aspx), T’afia restaurant on Travis St. (www.tafia.com) and Benjy’s restaurant in Rice Village (www.benjys.com). Unfortunately, all of the famous/yummy restaurants in Houston are not vegan… Houston is BBQ and Tex Mex country! Let me know ifyou want ‘normal’ retaurant suggestions if you will have co-workers with you!
Mmmm, never tried mango in a smoothie, but I just might now … and the chocolate too, of course
Wow, awesome on the boxing classes!
That juice looks so bright and green! YUM! Chocolate sounds yummy, I gave it up for lent..eeek!!
Yumm – I totally love to put ginger in my spinach smoothies, but romaine, pineapple AND mango sounds like a fab idea! Thanks and have a wonderful day!
Oh I wish I could get on your blog Melissa but silly Saudi has blocked it! Maybe when I hit the states this week?
That smoothie looks fabulous!!
I love mangos!!
I’ve tried that healthy chocolate before and I actually didn’t eat it, I thought it was gross…. but that’s just me?! It tasted really processed? I think it was the same brand??
Anyways, I missed you glad you are back!! Your package is all ready, so send me your US addy when you get a few seconds!!
So fun!!
Hello from the USA! I love reading about your adventures. I only fly mostly in and out of New York City to places like Texas and Florida although I used to do nothing but Montreal, Quebec.
I love the smoothie and cannot wait to try it. Do you have any idea if it would work as well as a juice? And, as far as the boxing/boot camp/walking and work…don’t get so thin that you literally fly away! Good job anyway. I wish I could do all of that. Maybe after my knee heals from the recent surgery.
I will be adding you to my blog as a link. See that, your blog is reaching the globe. Keep up the good work!

Hiya Christina!!!I reckon the mango part would be hard to juice plus you wouldn’t get much juice out of the lettuce unless you have a specific greens juicer like a Hurom or a Green star I reckon. Thanks for your support Christina!
This smoothie looks amazing! I can’t wait to try it!
Oh wow, this looks delish. I’m definitely going to give it a try!
ps. Thanks for the link love x
Yay for the healthy choco stash! I got some of that a while back and actually realize i have forgotten about it…whoops, better get eating
You are brave – I still have yet to try romaine lettuce!
Yum. That’s one of my favorite green smoothies this time of year. I usually use a darker green like kale in the winter.
I’ve gotta check out that chocolate.
Isn’t it just so tasty? I just ordered it for my passengers to try for my next flight!
We love GINGER!!! We put it into every smoothie of ours! Love the color of your smoothie! Never heard of that chocolate thanks for sharing. I will have to look more into it!
That smoothie is so gorgeous and green! I love it. I found your blog through Tasha. I’m really interested in raw food, but it seems so expensive, and some of the ingredients are hard to find in my town. How did you make that raw rice she posted about? It looks amazing.
Look forward to reading more of your posts!!! Trinity
I’ll send ya an email Trinity
