Friday Friends: Guest Post #2 – Dairy Free Betty

Hey everyone!

Right about now I will be halfway between Texas and Saudi (mid air heading home after a long trip) so I thought I’d do something special and have #2 in my guest post special of other bloggers that keep me inspired. But before I do, seeing as I’ve been out on the road these last 10 days, here’s a reminder video post of how I sometimes stick to Raw on the Road with all my frequent travelling for work, just incase you missed it the first time.

Here, Jess of Dairy Free Betty talks about her transition to a Dairy Free diet. Whilst I am flying about I hope you enjoy, go check out her blog too, but not before you’ve read her post here icon smile Friday Friends: Guest Post #2 Dairy Free Betty She has some great recipes too.

Here is her story…

About 2 years ago, I started feeling sick – really sick.  I felt like I could never leave my house because my stomach was always so upset (Which was the time that I also started dating my hubby to be – lucky him) I went to countless doctor’s appointments, and they tested me for everything under the sun.  After testing me for everything under the sun, they started trying to feed me every drug you could think of, for everything you could think of, none of which helped at all.   I finally made the decision to go visit our local “Naturopath” and the first thing she told me was I should eliminate dairy from my diet 100%!   Of course my first thoughts were “ICE CREAM, CHEESE, MILK…eek… how will I EVER survive! icon smile Friday Friends: Guest Post #2 Dairy Free Betty

Much to my surprise, it was really easy to eliminate these foods from my diet, especially while cooking at home.  PLUS – it made me feel so much better, no more extreme cramping, no more nauseous feelings, no more being petrified of leaving my house “just in case”.   It gets a wee bit trickier when eating out, or at friends places because you have to “trust” that they didn’t add “just a little butter”.   Restaurants always try to convince me that margarine has no dairy in it… which always ends in me having to return my meal.   I always double/triple check what is in my meals, because it just isn’t worth feeling terrible for the next few hours or next day (My body also tends to get very exhausted for the full next day after a dairy incident).

As I was saying, it’s not overly difficult to eliminate dairy from you diet.  There are so many substitutes now, as more and more people are just finding their bodies cannot tolerate dairy products.   Plus – milk turns baby cows into big 2 ton heifers, does it seem like something we need in our diets anyways?  Ha-ha

So if you feel bloated/gassy after a big plate of nachos, or a large glass of milk – I challenge you to eliminate dairy from your diet (just for fun!!!)  and see how you feel!  It took less than a week for me to feel better!    From my experience doctors will never suggest this – actually my doctor told me I was crazy and how was I EVER going to get enough calcium in my diet (hello leafy greens, almonds etc).

Anyways, this is my challenge to you!  Give it a go, see how you feel and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding transitioning into a dairy free lifestyle.   I have an alternative to almost any dairy product (except feta *sniffles*)   My blog is ALWAYS open icon smile Friday Friends: Guest Post #2 Dairy Free Betty
