I Wanna Move into Wholefoods

Hey hey, for those of you just joining me, I am still in Houston but not for much longer icon sad I Wanna Move into Wholefoods

Yesterday saw me running around like crazy trying to get all my last minute pick ups before I head back to the Magic Kingdom and I cannot help feeling I may have overdone it?? What do you think?

Averie has got me convinced that I should start to learn how to make alot of these things myself, in the very least the bars like she talks about here, but I guess the reason I like having these convenience foods is for  when on the run and for the lack of a better option (like a piece of fresh fruit). And I like to buy in bulk icon wink I Wanna Move into Wholefoods

When I headed out the door yesterday, I hit up Jamba Juice for a double wheatgrass shot (unpictured as I downed it in one!) and a Strawberry Whirl:

STRAWBERRIES, BANANAS, STRAWBERRY/APPLE JUICE & ICE

Not the best choice but a juice nonetheless….

I then went in search of this place after Sara sent me a link on Twitter yesterday to try out.

But my GPS just couldn’t find it. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to trying out what they had to offer by way of raw vegan goodies.

So I hit up Wholefoods instead. You never have to ask me twice.

Other than supplies to head on home with I picked up some great new things to try that I have been dying to check out including:

And it tasted better than I thought! Just like a Ginger Beer, only a little more tart and slightly vinegary (pleasantly)

Here is the culture just before I accidentally DRANK it!

This is what is says on their website

What is Kombucha?

Kombucha is alternately known as a Chinese tea, a plant, or a mushroom. But it’s not really any of these. It’s a living culture of beneficial microorganisms, and in Kombucha’s case, the whole is infinitely greater than the sum of its parts! Our Kombucha is delicately cultured – some liken it to fermentation – for 30 days. During this period, essential nutrients form like active enzymes, viable probiotics, amino acids, antioxidants and polyphenols. All of these combine to create an elixir that immediately works with the body to restore balance and vitality. Kombucha has been used for hundreds of years throughout the world as a daily health tonic. The culture resembles a light brown, tough, gelatinous disk—and because it’s a living, growing entity, it can regenerate and create new cultures with every batch. In fact, GT’s Kombucha and Synergy are made from Kombucha cultures that are descendants of the original culture GT grew to create his first bottles

Then I walked back into my hotel room to THIS!

Weeeeeeeee! Ordered from these lovely peeps.

Look how shiny and new it looks! Yes I have one already well OK the boyf has one that I bought him for his birthday last year, but I use it way more than he does, but it was about time I bought myself a HERS! And the beauty is although the models are different, the jugs are interchangeable.

I was exhausted from a full day of shopping (I bought some other goodies that I’ll share with you laters)…so I plopped down in my hotel room to watch The Biggest Loser (my first episode in years) and nibbled on some:DSCF2699 1024x768 I Wanna Move into Wholefoods

Brown Rice Cucumber and Avocado Sushi (still loving the Brown Rice yeah!)

A little later and I was feeling a bit peckish so I couldn’t resist these:

And I ate the entire packet! And almost the sachet to keep the chips dry! Haha

Then my sweet tooth kicked in so I just had to have this little beauty

The filling was the perfect mix of choc and mint reminiscent of an Arnott’s Mint Slice from my childhood days

and the crust complimented the filling with a slight salty taste.

I’m outta here to get some rest before my next flight. I’ll be back soon with some more goodies I’ve picked up!

If you don’t have access to certain foods or services, what is one thing you like to stock up on when you get the chance?

  1. I have coupons for about 10x free of that kombucha tea, but I can’t find it anywhere in Canada… sad… I must go to the states just for that! hehe..

Looks like you pulled in a great haul!! I’m going to check out that vitamix website.. I think I might get one for my birthday… less than 2 weeks! But if not, maybe I’ll just buy one!

Mail just got here, no package yet!! So excited!

    • Girlonraw says:

Oh you totally have to find somehow to get that tea. I wonder if they have it somewhere in BC for ya?

oh let me know AS SOON as you get the package hehe.

  2. Wow, I just had to add Kombucha to my Whole Foods shopping list to try! Congrats on the new Vita, is looks like mine and you’ll LOVE having multiple containers, I find myself using two at a time a lot for a soup, sauce and/or salad dressing.

  3. City Girl says:

Sounds like you had a lovely trip to Whole Foods, which seems to have more varied goodies than the Whole Foods in Washington, DC – yay for finding new things. I am now going to keep an eye out for more of these brands at my Whole Foods :)

I am lucky to live near a WF, but if I am somewhere that carries Artisana Raw Butters, I majorly stock up, as I love those, and there are few retailers that have them (some WF have the Artisana tahini but thats about it). I also hit up a Vegan Store in the Washington DC suburbs which is kind of a trek from where I am at – there I stock up on Daiya vegan cheese and Sunergia vegan feta for treats.

About Lara bars, my husband is a huge Lara bar fan, and he has researched prices everywhere, and WF has the best deal on them – so you should tell yourself that. I need to check out this Averie blog you mention :)

  5. Shannon says:

Thanks for the blog comment! Your WF spree looks divine. I had kombucha once and it was…weird. But I think I’ll try it again. I love your photos!

  6. Pam says:

I love your passion and excitement for raw food! It’s so refreshing when I’m surrounded by “normal” people in my daily life.

The excitement about the Vitamix is adorable too. That’s exactly how I’d be if one showed up at my door!

Your shopping spree would be a dream come true for me. I have access to lots of health food stores here in San Diego county, but amazingly haven’t been to a Whole Foods yet (its a bit of a drive). Thanks for the insight! I can’t wait to go to one.

  7. thanks for the comment:) I like to stock up on nut butters so I have a variety of choices…it help to keep oatmeal interesting!

  8. Oh your WF stash looks great! I can see where if one never had access to a WF that it would be like hoarding mentality! and heck, i have access to one and still have hoarding mentality like omg i neeeeeed to buy this and this and this b/c it all just looks fab, i know.

The rice paper rolls. I have been on a 4 week quest to find rice paper and cant. So, i need to order it. I dont want to trek to an asian market so ordering.

Vita. GReat! You can never have too many vita’s in your life :)

  9. Nice stash of goodies :) Yum Kale chips and ginger flavored kombucha :) Our favorite flavor. Sushi looks delicious as well!!!

  10. Hey Doll!!! I would be doing the same thing as you and loading my case up with treats from wholefoods! You should see when we travel…..oiye…allergy free good galore going down to our location and a full stock coming home of bought stuff.

We don’t have trader joe’s in canada so when we hit the US, I pick up a whack of stuff!

I am so glad to see you are well!

    XXOO

  11. Run Sarah says:

Love brown rice sushi, the portabello rolls sound awesome too. I didnt know you could buy pre-packaged kale chips, those sound awesome for on-the-go!

  12. Sarah says:

All your food looks SO good! Honestly, I would do the same if I was in the US and stock up. I’m always reading about great products that available over there but not on our little island (UK). Ah well. Love the vitamix! The hubbie would go mental if I spent that much money on a kitchen gadget unfortunately. Esp since I’ve just tipped wine all over my laptop and killed it. Doh. Anyways, love your blog! :)

  13. Sam Ahern says:

Robyn, you scored BIG TIME with all those goodies! Though you really should save the money and make your own Larabars, esp. with the abundance of Dates and nuts in Saudi. They are super good though!

  14. Travel Raw says:

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I know I have been away too long! Traveling, recovering from injuries, jet-lag, food poisoning, all the “glamourous parts” of the “jet-set life.” :) Looks like you made quite a haul in the States. Love the full suitcase and enjoyed catching up on your adventures!

  15. I want a Vitamix so bad!! Enjoy : )

  16. Deann Rabara says:

I have been to your site a few times now, and this time I am adding it to my bookmarks :) Your posts are always relevant, unlike the same-old stuff on other sites (which are coming off my bookmarks!) Rock on!
