Summer Solstice Sunset
Yesterday, in my part of the world it was Summer Solstice (the official first day of Summer when the sun is at it’s maximum elevation.) Although you have already read about how freakin hot it’s been here, I would have thought it began at least a month ago!
Revellers watched the sun come up at Stonehenge in the UK, but I was able to witness the sunset in Bahrain and help understand a theory that a Saudi archaeologist is promoting. He believes an ancient Saar settlement in the Dilmun civilisation had an oddly shaped room in a temple where the sun would set in the corner once a year to alert the people to a new year beginning. Last week I accompanied my boyfriend to a free talk by the archaeologist to explain the theory and last night was our chance to experience it by viewing sunset in the remains of the temple! You can read more about the theory here.
So this wouldn’t be a post without some food pics. Then it was onto our favourite restaurant in Bahrain. Anand Bharvan. South Indian Vegetarian food goodness. We were that hungry, please excuse the half eaten shots!
All for the measley sum of 2.5Bahraini Dinah/25Saudi Riyal/$6.60US/$8AUS for 2 OF US!!!!! HOLY YUM and there were even left overs as we left with massive food babies and I bought a carton of mangos for 2 Bahraini Dinars. Almost as much as my dinner for 2! Aw yeah.

Very cool pics and the food looks wonderful, especially the chickpea curry!
It was to live for Christine! YUM YUM
Beautiful pictures of the sunset….and that food! YUM!!
The food was amazing girls. I am even thinking of a repeat performance tonight hehe.
I love that shirt of yours! And the way that the dosa looks like pizza (is it strange that I like the look of the dosa, because it looks like pizza, even though I don’t like pizza, because I know it isn’t pizza?
)
Aw thanks Hannah. I think I got it in OKC when I was there for my culinary school training. USA is the best for clothes shopping
I LOVE INDIAN FOOD. Seriously
Interesting theory put forward by the archeologist. I may google that one x
I know isn’t it! Oh of course Indian is like the 2nd national food staple in the UK right?
