Guest Post : Sarah from Gluten Free Tries Vegan

Howdy everyone! Happy Friday! For most of you that signals the beginning of your weekend but for those of my newer readers, you may not know that here in Saudi Arabia, we have our weekends as Thursdays and Fridays, so mine is almost over icon sad Guest Post : Sarah from Gluten Free Tries Vegan

I’ve been quite absent of late on here, but rest assured there are some great exciting developments happening (including a trip back home to Australia in the coming weeks – any Brissie based bloggies, drop me a line if you would fancy a meet up from August 3 – 22). Plus don’t forget you can always follow my up to day kitchen antics on my Twitter and Facebook pages.

Without further ado, I want to introduce you to one of my pals Sarah from Gluten Free Tries Vegan for her debut guest post. Sarah and I have been following one another’s blogs for sometime and we often banter on Twitter too! I love that she hails from my old home of Britain and keeps me up to date with  the vegan happenings in the motherland. She’s studying to be a nurse, and has some really inspiring and enjoyable stories to share. And she’s cute too!

me1 Guest Post : Sarah from Gluten Free Tries Vegan

Hi there!

My name’s Sarah and you can find me babbling away at Gluten-free tries Vegan, formerly Sustaining Health Holistically.  The name change occurred coming up to one year ago when I decided to adopt a vegan diet for health and ethical reasons.  I decided to “try” the vegan diet rather than commit to it because I believe that it’s important not to pressure ourselves to follow a certain diet (unless it is for medical reasons) or, indeed, to pressure ourselves in other areas.  Rather I believe in allowing changes to come about more organically, which enhances the potential positive effects of any given change.  I have to say that since adopting a vegan diet I have never felt better- physically and mentally.  I have met so many wonderful people through blogging and veganism that not only is my body increasingly nourished by a healthy vegan diet, but so too is my soul.

My tag line is still “Sustaining Health Holistically” as I believe that not only is food important for physical nourishment but it can also nourish mind, body, and soul- all of which are intertwined.  Furthermore, I believe that health is so much more than just the physical so I like to include things other than food on my blog (although food is the biggest part).  I do occasionally rant about health issues, body image and feminist issues.  However, the main drive behind my blog is to show that not only is it possible to follow a diet that is both strictly gluten-free and vegan, but that this way of eating can be delicious and easy.

Girl on Raw is one of my favourite blogs because I love including raw foods in my diet and am always looking for raw inspiration.  On any given day I will eat between 60-95% raw.  Usually 60% and I try to eat all raw before dinner but I am not dogmatic about it.  I just try to eat intuitively which means that I generally feel better on raw food throughout the day then something cooked in the evening.  So since Robyn’s web space is one that is inspirational I’d like to try to keep with that theme by sharing with you one of my favourite raw elixirs.

sparkling nectarine and strawberry nectar Guest Post : Sarah from Gluten Free Tries Vegan

Strawberry and Nectarine Fizz (serves 1-2)

A couple of handfuls of strawberries (I mostly use frozen berries)
2 nectarines, chopped
200 ml sparkling water
A few squirts of agave – 2ish tbsps
A handful of ice cubes

Chuck in your high speed blender, and blend away until the consistency is similar to that of a frappuccino.  (I love how imprecise blended drink-making can be).

Thanks for having me Robyn!
