Add More Raw: Kemi Nekvapil | Fab Friday Giveaway

This giveaway has now closed. Thanks to all that participated. Winner announced here

One of the wonderful things about being in the raw food business and having access to the internet, is you get to meet so many likeminded individuals all over the world, which for me is perfect as we get to travel to sometimes meet them face to face.

Even better when one of these people hail from your own home of Australia.

About a year ago, I went looking to see if there were any raw chefs in my home country and came across Kemi Nekvapil, who lives in Melbourne with her family and her enviable back yard edible organic garden.

At that time, Kemi had just released her ebook, Spring Fling, which she generously offered in a previous giveaway. You can grab her own copy of it here online.

Recently Kemi has released her first DVD, Add More Raw.

Kemi has been a professional baker and chef for 17 years so not not only does she have the raw cuisine know-how, she also has the classical culinary training behind her.

The part that stood out to me most about her DVD and her approach in general, is her non extremist and non pushy attitude to inspiring raw food onto others. There are plenty of people in the raw food biz who will do that already, when instead she encourages EVERYONE to ADD MORE RAW whether you still wish to eat meat, dairy or make no other changes to your diet, other than to just ADD MORE RAW.

I really love this philosophy as it is one I try to encourage for myself, especially living in a family with a very open minded husband, however one who wishes to never give up his cooked dinners nor meat and a little boy who LOVES his raw food, but has a non raw parent also.

This approach makes it more accessible and less elitist in my opinion, and really, for those of us who have taken this approach to our own health, you will find that the other ‘stuff’ in your diets tend to fall away naturally.

Kemi’s DVD includes some delicious recipes that don’t require any fancy equipment other than a blender and a food processor (no dehydrator or other kitchen gadgety that you wouldn’t normally find in a standard kitchen) and her onscreen approach is very delightful to watch. I cannot wait to meet Kemi in person and have her challenge me to that arm wrestle that I know she will just thrash me with anyway (we are always talking about our love for Body Pump class on twitter and Kemi is always encouraging me to increase my weights!).

I love Kemi’s playfulness and natural onscreen presence, and I think you will too and isn’t she just glowing with such health!

Soooo, Kemi is once again generously offering one Girl on Raw reader their own copy of her fabulous new DVD, ADD MORE RAW.

All you had to do is answer down in the comments sections this question:

“How do you ‘ADD MORE RAW’ to your day”

The giveaway is open worldwide and will close at midnight GMT time Sunday 8th July, 2012 with the winner drawn randomly and announced on the blog on Monday, 9th July, 2012, so you had better get cracking!

You can go visit Kemi and her website here, her twitter here and her facebook page here

I try to make sure I have a lot of raw foods each day by eating a large salad and fresh green juice every day. If I am having a cooked meal I make sure I add raw veggies, sprouts, fruits, nuts and seeds into it. I love the energy and high nutritional value I get from raw :)

  2. Emma says:

Sounds fantastic! In winter when I find I’m eating more cooked meals than usual, I try and make sure all my snacks are raw – lots of fruit, nuts and green juice :) x

  3. Cheyenne says:

I make sure I have at least one serving of raw greens everyday, whether its a salad, a green smoothie, or just a big heaping of raw broccoli with all kinds of delish spices!

  4. Kate says:

Green smoothies, atleast one large leafy green salad a day, fresh fruit, make my own raw chocolate!

  5. Because its winter and I crave cooked meals such as stir frys, I lightly cook half of my veggies that go into the dish and keep the other half raw and have it on fresh bed of baby spinach.
Cooking half of my meals instead of the whole dish has really helped me in winter months!

  6. Julie says:

I’ve started juicing the greens to “add more raw” in my family’s diet. We are super new to the concept, and grateful to all the raw foodists out there who are so open to sharing their knowledge.

  7. Kristen says:

I have fruit and green juice or make a smoothie with a lot of kale and spinach thrown in for breakfast. I have been testing out raw recipes for lunch and dinner, but I always make sure to have a big old salad with yummy dressing with whatever I eat at dinner. It helps me fill up on more raw than cooked food at dinner time, and entices my husband to eat more than just meat, which benefits him as well. I used to have frequent stomach problems, and I am feeling so much better now!

  8. Elisa says:

I find that for me adding raw first thing in the morning is a sure way to go about it. I have a smoothie in the morning usually. If not i make a salad with greens and sprouts sometime during the day. I sometimes also get around to juicing, that is when i have time for the afterwards clean up that comes with it,lol.

    thanks,

    Elisa

  9. Taiwan Vegan says:

I am new to anything raw! I have never been a raw vegan for more than just a day! I have been a vegan for 6 years and never have thought about going raw at all. I would love to get acquainted with her ebook and DVD and learn more about it. x

  10. Ashley Whiteside says:

As I’m still on a gradual transition to a high raw diet, I’m proud to be incorporating 1-2 greens and fruits smoothies with flax or chia seeds, and a salad with sprouts and homemade vinaigrettes at lunch. My dinner is usually vegetarian, and I snack on nuts or dried unsweetened fruits. I’m loving how it feels and trying so hard to find more ways to make this transition the CORRECT way, and to truly make it a long-term lifestyle change. You and your resources have been invaluable. Thank you!!

  11. Hadeel says:

I like to start my day by having fruits, a smoothie. or a green juice. Once I get a good start for the day, the rest of the day tends to remain raw and green.
Would love to get Kemi’s DVD :)

  12. I’d love to check out Kemi’s DVD. I think the easiest way to add more raw is SMOOTHIES, and snacking on fresh fruit.

  13. Nicole H. says:

I add more raw by aiming to have a green smoothie full of raw fruits and veggies for breakfast every morning. I also have a big raw salad for lunch and dinner. Including greens, fruit, seeds or nuts, and sprouts. I feel so much healthier and happier when I eat raw and I encourage my family and friends to try it out! I’d love to make Kemi’s recipes for my family and friends. Kemi’s DVD sounds wonderful and I’d love to win it! :)

  14. Felicity Cupitt says:

I eat more raw by having a fridge well stocked with plenty of fruits, vegetables and nuts. I try to start the day with a green smoothie or juice and also aim to have a meal plan for the week. It keeps me organized snd my intent becomes focused towards good, healthy food. Being empowered through knowledge about the nutritional benefits of raw food also helps- I know it will make my body sing. I’d love Kemi’s DVD. It was her spring fling that got me into raw food.

  15. Philippa says:

I love to add homemade sprouts to lots of my meals in addition to trying to eat as many raw veges as possible and drinking lots of green juices.

  16. Wendy says:

Chocolate!! I make my own raw chocolate or use the pulp from making almond milk and add heaps of goodies to make chocolate energy balls.

  17. Lucinda U says:

Pick green smoothie recipes that last for a couple of days, so that I can wake up and have an easy ready-to-go-smoothie. Seek out new recipes to keep your crunchies interesting.

  18. MrsDruce06 says:

I started blending frozen bananas with cacao as a healthy alternative to store bought icecream for my daughter and discovered a yummy dessert we all love.

  19. Lulu says:

Since becoming pregant and getting diagnosed with gestational diabetes both my husband and I switched to a more raw diet, we aren’t a 100% raw yet but taking steps towards it. Breakfasts are smoothies with soaked almonds and what ever fruits we have in hand alon with toast or oats. Lunch is almost always a large Salad dressed in yummy olive oil and pIne nuts etc. the gestational diabetes was in control and I Los weight. We had a beautiful home birth, our daughter was born healthy and happy. And my placenta was huge! I continue with more veggies and fruits and it’s helped me recover from birth really fast. I religiously devoured foods like avocados bananas and dates so that the baby has milk. This DVD would be great to teach us more about adding Raw properly and in a nutritionalyl balanced way.

  20. Christina Ross says:

Wandering through the garden that my husband lovingly cultivates I randomly eat what is available like peas and beans then to have some fresh spinach is great. Picking fresh fruit is another wonder and delicious…..that’s how I get to add more raw to my diet….

  21. Joanne Lund says:

I have just been introduced to incorporating more raw food into my diet. To ensure I do this I start my day with raw. Often I’ll have half an avocado with chopped veg and will sprinkle over chopped parsley or coriander and then a handful of crushed sunflower and pumpkin seeds. For a snack I have hummus with sticks of vegetables or cut up cauliflower and broccoli.

  22. Kat says:

Green smoothies are the best way, I love that!

  23. Michelle says:

I have green packed smoothies or heaps of fruit for breakfast and try to have a huge salad for either lunch or dinner :)

  24. Kathleen says:

I have a smoothie every morning. and a green juice every afternoon!

  25. With all the great local produce, I am working a raw salad into each day. Yum!

  26. Kristina says:

I have green smoothies as often as possible. I’ve also tried a raw spaghetti recipe that you posted, and that I will make again.
Tonight, I am making raw chocolate – by order of my boyfriend, who does not like chocolate. He tasted the ones I made in the week, and that was the last I saw of them! So I will also start to add more raw deserts :-)

  27. nik says:

We love lots of raw nut butters and dried fruits, as well as fruits and veggies from the farmers market. Cheers!

  28. Rhonda says:

By adding fruit and veggies to my smoothies….salads for lunch…and raw cut up veggies for snacks.

  29. Karen Chard says:

Ever since the inspiration of seeing Kemi in Canberra I have been into smoothies and exploring new salads, my Kidz have given me the thumbs up for a few!! I try to pick up a piece of fruit, carrot or handful of nuts for snacks, just a step each day in the right direction! I feel the energy difference :-)

  30. Melissa says:

In the last six months Ive really become more interested in raw foods and have a green smoothie for breakfast and a salad for lunch. Im married to a meat lover and have kids who enjoy meat so I do find it a challenge to get them to embrace raw. Ive just purchased a spirooli and am keen to make your raw marinara pasta. Im also obsessed with growing sprouts at the moment and watching them grow with child like fascination.

  31. Nikki says:

The best way we’ve found to add more raw is lots of delicious dips and spreads to go in our daily sandwiches and wraps, and heaps of raw desserts, like chocolate mousse, cheesecake and slices, so you never feel deprived! In fact, we loved this food so much it just inspired us to try adding even more raw!

  32. wendy phillis says:

I went raw last January after my body said “Go Raw” i have a fruit breakfast with lots of lemon water first about 2 litres to keep my body alkaline. then nuts to snack on. Every lunch even though I am in Canberra where it was -5 this morning I have a huge salad. This usually has kale, rocket my favourites, baby spinach, toms, avacado and capsicum for the haert red of course, fresh corn niblets sprinkled over the top, sprouts and then anything else that is in season. I drizzle over this some nut paste or tahini and lemon – yum. At night the body is feeling for some warm food so I followed Kemi’s idea of pouring miso or another soup over salad in the evening. Have been making raw cheesecakes, cacoa balls and Kemi’s banana balls that my daughter loves and can take to school, no nuts. Have found my energy soar, feel so much cleaner and clearer since going raw. Also have green smoothies and lots of juices. Had a cold last week on Monday. Drank garlic, apple, parsley, celery, beetroot and carrot juice that Don Tolman suggests for a cold and immune boost. Had this 3 x that day and gone. Yum love how the body is able to restore itself and feel so good on raw. Love the raw

  33. Charissa says:

I try to have one smoothie a day!

  34. Aimee says:

Since I saw Kemi present at the Sydney Good Food and Wine Show, I’ve made my lifestyle a tad more ‘rawsome’ by cramming my blender with as many organic veges and greens as possible. My aim is to have at least 4 green smoothies a week, which I hope to increase.

My next step is to try making my own almond milk :) Kemi makes it look so easy!

  35. Arna says:

I have a green smoothie everyday…I have only just started this year and m learning about raw everyday..next year we are hoping to leave the big smoke for a new natural lifestyle in the beautiful southwest of western Australia..there we will be eating more green as I will be creating our very own veg patch!

  36. johanna says:
