Chill Out Day | SoCal Day 5

photo-33

So I think it was about time we just had an easy day. With Pat heading off for some of his work (well that’s the reason we are here in the first place), Manus and I headed off to the local Whole Foods in search of some more GREEN JUICE!!! Manus enjoying a Lara bar in the background. And spent at least an hour in the store, just pouring over their goodies: KOMBUCHA!!! Every flavour you can think of. Raw snacks like cakes and cookies and kim chi. And a whole dry stores section dedicated to RAW FOOD. This is what I walked out with but not limited to: Although not raw, this vegan cheese more »

Hollywood/Beverly Hills | SoCal Day 4

photo 2-22

Day 4 included some mandatory tourist stops Like the home of the Academy Awards: Kodak Theatre This was taken 2 days ago of my husband and son. And this photo was taken of me 7 years ago on my first trip to LA Outside Grauman’s Chinese theatre: home to  footprints and handprints of movie stars from today and days gone by. Then of course, an obligatory picture with one of the characters on Hollywood Boulevard. Complete coincidence that it was Jack Sparrow Mum was more impressed than Manus. Afterwards we saw two more Johnny Depp characters – the Mad Hatter, and Willa Wonka – amazing costumes. Then it was time to get some afternoon refreshments more »

Californication Day 3

www.girlonraw.com planet raw

I am so loving this place so much right now. I am trying to drink in as much as I can in our short stay here, because before we know it, we’ll be outta here, no doubt planning a return ‘dream’ trip back. Day 3 had us lying in for a little bit and eventually leaving the hotel just after lunch to make the trek across town to Santa Monica for a late lunch at Planet Raw. This is only our second raw restaurant we have visited and so far MY favourite! To start with I had BLOOD derived from a dark age spell: the blood of a fuji apple, ginger, lime and red beets more »

California Dreaming Day 1 & 2

118 degrees

Day 1 was spent wandering around Long Beach – where we are staying, in a haze of jet lag, after a 16 hour flight from Dubai which Manus HARDLY slept a wink,  just trying to familiarise ourselves with our new home for the next 10 days and to pick up our rental car – we fell asleep by 4pm! Day 2 headed off to Costa Mesa to South Coast Plaza – after being recommended it as a shopping destination by my flight attendant buddies who call Long Beach their second home. Costa Mesa by car is about a 45 min drive away, in Orange County. If you do happen to make it there as a more »

Fab Friday Giveaway | Your Green Baby: Raising Happy Healthy Babies

Raising Healthy Happy Babies

One question I get asked a lot is am I going to make Baby M eat only veggies when he begins solids and is he going to be a high raw bubba? The short answer is, not sure yet. I’ve not really done enough reading and research on an infant and child’s diet, however I’ve been reading The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Vegan Eating for Kids (not too fussed on the some of the recipes – from what I’ve seen there is not a great deal of whole foods), but the following book is one I am REALLY excited about. Juicy Meals | Strawesome Winner

2011-06-19

Hey there! How’s your week getting along!? I’ve been absent because being a mummy (mommy) and putting on my first workshop in a while has taken up my time for the past few days, just when I think I’m going to have some time to sit down, then mummy duties call, but that’s the way I like it. Remember I mentioned Jason Vales’ 7lbs in 7days program? Well I’ve been on it for now 5 days (except for a little taste testing on Monday for the raw foods class) and I am feeling amazing. I have not felt hungry for solids and my energy is through the roof. I’ve been walking with the pram most more »

Howdy friends! It’s weekend time for most of you lucky things, just as mine is drawing to a close. What exciting plans do you have ahead of you for this weekend? Did anyone catch the lunar eclipse where they were? We camped outside our house and waited, but it was a little difficult to see through the dusty haze, but we got some good pics… Then yesterday, we took a day trip across the causeway to Bahrain, to hang out and have some pampering. I’ve Got a Bit of Juice For Ya

Jason Vale Juice Master

During my travels to Italy for my sisters wedding I stopped over twice in Dubai to visit my pal and also do a little shopping. As my girlfriend whom I stay with lives close to Dubai Mall I have been getting to know the place quite well each time I visit Dubai. Usually my first stop is Planet Nurition on lower ground floor where I pick up a juice from the Jason Vale Juice Master stand. On my first trip there I had a wheatgrass shot with a Dreamy Detox chaser Apple, celery, cucumber, ginger, lemon. On the way back from Italy, I tried another wheatgrass shot with the hubs, who met me in Dubai more »

Hidy hi everyone! How was your weekend in the ‘real world’? Well I am back from my visit to Italy and Dubai. Gosh I love getting out of the Saudi sometimes, it’s nice to be able to enjoy a nice glass of wine, or even a simple luxury like being able to try on clothes in a store makes it seems a world away. Thanks for bearing with me, whilst I took a lighter approach to the blog whilst away, I was still able to update facebook and twitter now and then with my shenanigans on the road but I’ll give a better recap of our travels later this week. Flying The Friendly Skies

For those newbie readers hihi! In a previous life not too distant ago, I used to be a flight attendant. I worked on a low cost airline, prestige and also VVIP – that’s Very VERY Important Person aircraft. Now I’m a mum, I’ve been able to experience the other side as a traveling mum. Having had a background in career flying before, it’s given me a little background as to how to be prepared so here’s a few tips I’ve employed for my journey of traveling with an infant. 1 when booking your ticket, see if you can pre-allocate your seat with the bulkhead/bassinet seats. Some airlines will overbook these seats so you could end more »

My sister is getting married in Verona, so I’ll be there to give her away with Baby M as my date. Chai Gelato & Smoothie | Recipe

Howdy folks, I’m back again with this: Remember this cheesecake/tart from my Potluck? Well I made it from Matthew Kenney’s Everyday Raw but I changed it up a bit, but you can find the original recipe in his book. And there was another dessert I made and forgot to share… Chai Gelato. Yeah right, it was pretty decadent. I used the base for the icecream from here and you don’t need an icecream maker but great if you do: Raw Vegan Chai Gelato Ingredients 1 cup of cashews (soaked for 2 hours) 1/2 cup of coconut oil^, melted (I put it in the dehydrator til a liquid, but if it’s warm out you can just more »

Living on a Compound | Saudi Arabia

I live on a compound. I guess to most people, that conjures up so many different kinds of images, but I thought I’d  shed a bit of light on where I live, because if I didn’t live here I’d be curious too. When I first moved here to Saudi Arabia, I came from London where I worked as a flight attendant also, and shortly after arriving, met my future husband who worked for the same company – different department. Erm that’s NOT my husband So even when I resigned from my flying career, I wasn’t required to leave as my husband lived here already. I guess it’s hard to understand what living in a compound more »
