So guess what happened on Friday? One of the ladies I have been doing our Planned Parenting/Lamaze classes with (we had our final class on Tuesday) gave birth naturally and wonderfully to her new baby AND she wasn’t due til after me! And just before I was about to post this, Pat called me to tell me that ANOTHER friend who was due after me just had their baby! What does this mean? ANY MINUTE NOW!! Wowee. We more »

This week I was graced with a copy of one of my first ever Raw Food heroes’ latest book, Raw Food Made Simple. Karen Knowler is better known as the Raw Food Coach, and creator of the RawFoodDirectory.com and has been a raw food fan since the age of 20 in 1993 and teaching, writing and coaching professionally since 1998. I’ve been reading through the book this week and really love how easy ‘going raw’ Karen makes it seem from giving a simple 5 day raw lifestyle plan to 15 quick easy and delicious recipes anyone can make. Her style is not rigid nor does she promote this as the ‘Raw Food Diet’ or as more »

Morning all! What’s happening in your part of the world? Not sure if you’ve heard, but there’s quite a bit of unrest in my neighbouring country of Bahrain. I don’t know too much of what’s going on, other than what friends are posting on facebook and twitter, but needless to say my hearts and prayers go out to everyone that is being effected by the protesting and unrest. My mum is due to arrive from Australia next week so we might be having to change her flight to arrive direct to Saudi, and NOT Bahrain because at this stage, the causeway (border) has been closed for us to enter Bahrain Yesterday I started my day more »

Hey did everyone have a great V day? I’m not one for celebrating it myself (even when I’ve been coupled up – it’s never been a big celebration to me, I’d rather treat those I love, special throughout the whole year) but because I met my lovely husband around Valentines Day 3 years ago, it’s kinda a significant time of year. So I got a little dressed up… And let him take me out for dinner to where we first met Living in Saudi does have it’s social limitations (women need to be covered in an abaya when we are out in public, but there are some restaurants on other compounds that enable us to more »

Hey hey hey, it’s Sunday! And what a perfect way to start your day whether it’s a lazy lie in weekend or a work day (like for us). You have just got to try these oats. I made them yesterday by accident as I made the smallest smoothie in the world for Pat to take to work, realising it wasn’t worth packing up into his usual flask so I dumped it on some rolled oats for him instead. And so was born the: Chocolate Covered Strawberry Breakfast Oats Ingredients: 2 Large Servings 1/2 cup of hemps seeds 1 cup of water (if you can’t handle the nutty slightly bitter flavour of the hemp sub the more »

Hey ho, happy Friday to you or Saturday if you are reading this back home in Oz My weekend’s up and I bet you are looking forward to yours. Have you been listening the Great Health Debate? Often I am asked if I ONLY eat raw foods as I am so passionate about bringing more raw foods into both my life and those around me. My thoughts on diet and nutrition are very non judgemental and non biased and I don’t believe the way one person eats, should necessarily be the way everyone should eat to obtain optimal health. I believe there are healthy vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores (meat eaters) just as there are unhealthy ones and the way each person approaches their own diet is very individualised. I speak more about this in the video below, but I would love to hear your thoughts too on your food philosophy for great more »

This is a repost from last year, when I wrote an article for Heather Poole, one of my favourite Flight Attendant Bloggers and also an upcoming author of a tell all book of essays of her experience in the skies over the last 14 years. She asked me to put together a recipe using cherries to coincide with a giveaway of CHERRIES she was doing at the time. According to Heather “What you probably already know is jet lag can be cured by taking melatonin. What you may not know is tart cherries contain a significant amount of melatonin.” So if you are like my many flight attendant buddies or just suffer from jet lag every time you travel, you more »

Every now and then you just want to splurge on a something a little naughty and this night was no exception. After dinner I promised the hubs a nice dessert and he said he wanted ice cream. With only 2 very small servings left, whilst he was napping on the couch after dinner, I decided I wanted a bit of apple pie to go with the ice cream. So out came the puff pastry sheets (vegan) that have been living in the freezer for far too long for god knows what? And the muffin pan. And one green apple. Sprinkle of Sucanat* and cinnamon powder. I’m leaving these beauties in my dehydrator over night at 110°F then no doubt I’ll have some other incarnation for these sweet smelling ‘maters. Years later my dad would occasionally do his major spring clean then sell off (unknownst to her) mum’s LP’s, my favourite cassettes, even his stamp albums only to do it all again a couple of years later after another major cleanout. Do you prefer to juice or blend? JUICING Source Juicing is a fantastic way to get a bucketload of nutrients as juicers essentially separate the juice from the fibre of the vegetable and the juicers do the chewing for us, which means the nutrients are delivered faster. Oxidisation is quick however, so it is recommended you drink juices as soon as you have made them or in the very least within a day of making.
