Chocolate Monkey Mylkshake
- 1 cup of soaked almonds/cashews/hazelnuts (I prefer almonds) – always remember to soak your nuts especially almonds before using – usually overnight, this makes them easier to digest and their nutrients more readily available to your body.
- 3 cups of filtered water
- 2 frozen bananas (peel them before freezing if possible)/or fresh bananas
- 2 T cacao powder/carob or cocoa powder (I prefer cacao)
- 4 fresh dates or 2T agave nectar – I used agave tonight as I found ants in my date tin
- Optional Extras: Maca, Lacuma Vanilla extract, Rum extract.
Blend the almond with water until all almonds are ground. If you are not using a high speed blender like Vitamix or Blendtec, you may wish to blend initially only using a small amount of the water to ensure you ground the nuts as finely as possible.
Today I didn’t have access to my Vitamix (and didn’t I complain about it!!!) so I had to go back to the ghetto mixer. It still worked just as good but took a bit longer to grind the nuts fine. I’ve been spoilt in the past with my Vitamix, but definitely any usual blender will work if you don’t have one.

Now you need to strain the liquid from the nut meal. I use a nut milk/sprout bag and I purchased mine from here, but have been known to use stockings/panty hose as well

You can use any kind of clean material but it needs to be easy to squeeze the excess liquid out of.

Keep the almond meal aside (I usually freeze it for another recipe later like almond bread of as a filler for cakes or cookies)
Pour the milk back into the blender with the remaining ingredients and drink up!
If the mixture is still a little warm (like mine was today due to having to blend it for a a little longer, blend some ice cubes or serve on ice.)

Slurp…
